JCTC Transfer Information for Metropolitan College Students

If you plan to transfer to UofL, make sure you are taking the right steps from the beginning.

Metropolitan College JCTC Transfer Requirement for UofL MC Tuition Benefits

If you have less than 60 transferable college credit hours or have not earned an Associate Degree, you must have at least a 21 composite ACT score and a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 or greater to participate in the UofL MC program.

Preparing to Transfer to UofL as a JCTC MC Student

Communicate Your Intention to Transfer Immediately
  • Tell your MC Student Success Counselor if you plan to transfer to the University of Louisville. During your first agreement signing, your MC Student Success Counselor will complete the Intake Form on your STARFISH account. This intake form, along with your participation in Metropolitan College, will assign you to a JCTC/UofL Transfer advisor after your first semester at JCTC.

NOTE: STARFISH is an advising tool that connects students, advisors, tutors, and other support services on the JCTC campus.

Academic Advising (Required)
  • First Semester: During your first semester, you will receive academic advising through your START advisor. Your START advisor is assigned to you based on  your enrollment in FYE 105. If you are not enrolled in FYE 105, please contact a MC Student Success Counselor to learn more.
  • Second Semester: MC students who plan to transfer to the University of Louisville will be assigned a JCTC Transfer academic advisor. This advisor will assist you in completing the appropriate coursework for transfer. If you choose to enroll in the ULtra free or fee-based program (see below), you will be assigned an ULtra advisor rather than a JCTC academic advisor.

ULtra: University of Louisville Transfer Program (optional)

  • FREE ULtra services for MC JCTC students: The following services are free to MC JCTC students. Please identify yourself as a MC participant when working with the ULtra office. To learn more about these free services, visit the ULtra page.

    • L.E.A.D. (Leaders Exploring Advanced Degrees)
  • Fee-Based ULtra services for MC JCTC students: The following services are available to MC JCTC students who pay a $40 per semester fee. This fee is NOT COVERED by MC benefits.  You must pay for this fee out of pocket by the tuition and fee deadline each semester. After you pay your ULtra fee, you will receive an email to your KCTCS account within a week that includes instructions on getting your Cardinal Card and accessing other services. To learn more about this program, visit the ULtra page. Students receive the following services for their $40 per semester fee:

    • Guaranteed admission to UofL

Students who do not meet one of the admission criteria for UofL have several options to receive Metro College benefits at the University of Louisville:

  • Participate in Metropolitan College at Jefferson Community and Technical College and participate in the University of Louisville Transfer Program, ULtra. Once you earn 60 transferable college credit hours or have earned an associate degree, you may receive MC benefits at the University of Louisville. Students are strongly encouraged to consider this option and to utilize the services of ULtra. ULtra counselors will advise students of JCTC courses that support their transfer to UofL.
  • Utilize UPS Earn and Learn benefits (while working in a MC eligible work shift) during your first semester at UofL. If you obtain a 2.7 or higher UofL GPA during this first term in the Earn and Learn program, you can submit an MC petition for admission to the Metropolitan College program the following semester.
  • Submit a MC petition requesting an exception to the MC UofL admission policy. An exception to the UofL MC admission policy will be considered when extenuating circumstances prevented adherence to the MC UofL admission criteria. When available, relevant documentation should be submitted with the petition. Submission of a MC petition does not guarantee approval.  If you have completed any coursework at JCTC, and you do not meet MC UofL requirements, you must meet with ULtra Transfer Services to complete the following steps to submit a petition:

Step 1: Schedule a meeting (in-person or virtual) with ULtra Transfer Services to determine when you should transfer to UofL as an MC student.

Log on to the scheduling page: Contact & Office Hours — Office of Adult & Transfer Services (louisville.edu). Plan in advance as it may be 24 hours or more before an appointment is available

Scroll down and select "Book Now" under a staff member.

In the form, under "What would you like to talk about during the meeting?" write "Support to file and MC petition for UofL".

Step 2: Meet with the ULtra staff member and request this form to be completed: https://forms.office.com/r/rm9UNw6Fm8 (Note: Students are not able to access this form.)

Step 3: Immediately after meeting with ULtra, a student must complete and submit the petition form: https://forms.metro-college.com/petition
