Thalia Almenares Lozada
When Thalia Almenares Lozada first started working at UPS, Thalia had lived in United States for only three months and spoke little English. With the help of the Metropolitan College program and UPS’ International Community Job Program (ICJP), Thalia learned to speak English fluently in just one year.
Thalia grew up in Cuba and has been with the Metropolitan College program for since Fall 2018.
Currently, Thalia works as a Talent Acquisition Generalist in the Center of Employment at UPS. Additionally, Thalia serves as a role model to other individuals participating in ICJP and helped to translate the Get Started Metropolitan College Checklist in Spanish to serve as a resource for prospective students.
This spring, Thalia was chosen as the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Metropolitan College Student Award, an award that recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding leadership, work-life balance, and academic success. Additionally, Thalia graduated from Jefferson Community and Technical College with an Associate of Science.
Thalia’s other recent accomplishments include event coordinator for a local annual Dare to Care Food Drive and involvement in Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society for students at two-year colleges that recognizes and honors exceptional academic achievement.
As for next steps, Thalia aspires to be a dental hygienist and has been accepted into the University of Louisville’s Dental Hygiene Upper Division program for the fall 2021 semester.
