"UPS and Metro College hold a very special place in my heart."
As I move forward in my career I often encourage individuals seeking their education to look into UPS because I know from experience the great things “brown can do for you”!
My name is Ahyauna Ellis and I am the daughter of a 24 year UPS veteran, Kelvin Ellis, who inspired me to join UPS when I was age 18. I was employed with UPS and a member of the Metropolitan College program for seven wonderful years. Within those years I was afforded the opportunity to obtain an Associate’s of Applied Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor’s of Social Work.
If it had not been for my mother and father encouraging me to take part in this program I don’t think I would have the success I have today.
For seven years I worked third shift at UPS and went to school during the day. This was a laborious journey because it took a lot of hard work and sleepless nights. Nonetheless, UPS provided ways to support furthering my education (besides paying college tuition) to help me on this journey such as: awarding semester bonuses and text book reimbursements, allowing scheduled time off for major assignments and presentations, and providing an student-employee computer lab.
Being in the Metro College program gave me the support I needed to beat the odds and lay a sure foundation for future successes.
UPS and Metro College hold a very special place in my heart. If it had not been for my mother and father encouraging me to take part in this program I don’t think I would have the success I have today. I didn’t have the money to pay for college and because of certain life events finishing my undergraduate studies took longer than expected. Being in the Metro College program gave me the support I needed to beat the odds and lay a sure foundation for future successes.
This past May 2015 I obtained a Master’s of Science in Social Work and I currently work as a Child Protective Services worker for the state of Kentucky. As I move forward in my career I often encourage individuals seeking their education to look into UPS because I know from experience the great things “brown can do for you”!
