UofL Fall Orientation & Course Registration Guide for First Time Freshman
Hello future Cardinal! We’re excited to welcome you to Metro College and UofL! Here’s what you need to know about how your fall class schedule will be created and how to make changes if needed.
What to Know About UofL Orientation & Your Course Registration
Starting in the 26–27 academic year, UofL will introduce a new first‑semester scheduling process designed to make registration easier and ensure students begin with a strong academic start. This page walks you through how your pre‑registered schedule is created, what to expect during New Cards Orientation, and the timelines for when you can make changes to your classes—especially if you're planning to participate in Metro College.
First, you'll need to register for a New Cards Orientation.
After you register for New Cards Orientation, complete the Course Scheduling Form in your New Cards Gateway. Gather any dual and/or test credit information to include in this form. Expect this to take about 30-45 minutes. THIS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO ORIENTATION. Your advisor will build your fall schedule based on the information you provide in this form. You will review your fall schedule during the advising session at your orientation.
Metro College Students:
If you plan to participate in Metro College — or think you might — you MUST indicate this on the Course Scheduling Form. You may update the form any time before your orientation date.
It is important to create an MC friendly schedule your first semester!
New MC students should limit first semester enrollment to 10 credit hours or less and advocate for late afternoon and/or evening classes that will compliment a night shift work schedule. This allows students time to adjust to balancing school and work.
During Orientation:
On Day 1, you can tell your advisor if you need changes. There will be staff support on Day 2 to assist you with any adjustments if neededAfter orientation:
Before July 13, contact your advising unit for changes. There will be a hold on your account preventing you from making any changes.
Starting July 13, the hold preventing schedule changes will be removed, allowing you to make adjustments via CourseLeaf. Be sure to consult with your advising unit if your adjustments are more than meeting times/days or course format. They can help with schedule adjustments.

This Is a One Time Preregistration During Orientation
