What advice do you have for prospective and current students in the MC program?

My advice for prospective and current students in the MC program would be to stay focused on your vision, pace yourself to avoid burnout, take your time and follow through. Use all of the resources that are available to you through Metro College, their main goal is to provide support and guidance in every way to help you succeed at reaching the finish line on your educational journey to success.

What led you to choose your major of study?

My decision to major in education stemmed from a negative experience as a 1st grader in Jefferson County Public Schools, where myself along with a few others were made to feel as if we did not matter, we were made to feel as if we were not smart enough and the teacher refuse to help us. That experience made me want to become an educator, I wanted to make learning fun and enjoyable for children. As well, provide a safe and loving environment, to help meet their individual needs and to show them that they matter.

What person(s) has been the biggest influence in your life and why?

The people that were most influential in my life are my mother, who exhibited great strength in the face of adversity she never gave up when life was unbearable and all odds were stacked against her, she taught me to be strong and to press my way through no matter how hard life gets. My Aunt, who has always encouraged me that I could do anything that I put my mind to, she said "nothing comes to a failure but not trying" and to always give it my best effort . last but not least, my best friend/companion helps me stay focused and holds me accountable to follow through with the plan. These three people play an intricate part in my decision to stand strong, stay focused, and follow through with the vision.

What has been your greatest accomplishment in life?

The greatest accomplishment in my life has been having my beautiful daughter and grandchildren, being able to financially support my family and although delayed... not giving up on my educational goals by returning to college to finish my degree.

What is an interesting or fun fact about yourself?

An interesting fact about me is that I absolutely love butterflies... the metamorphosis of a butterfly is symbolic to the metamorphosis of the challenges and obstacles that I have faced in this life. The beauty of it is no matter how challenging, I went through knowing that when each obstacle was completed, the outcome would be a blessing and rebirth into something more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.
