UPS LOOP Program

Receive a living allowance to pay for living expenses for up to 36 months while attending JCTC as a Metropolitan College participant.


PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The UPS LOOP, Living Options and Opportunities Path, provides eligible Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) Metropolitan College participants with a $325 per month living allowance. The living allowance is limited to 36 months, or completion of associate degree, whichever comes first. 

UPS LOOP is available to all JCTC MC participants who meet the eligibility requirements and who have a confirmed and validated residency from any county in the state of Kentucky and the following counties in Southern Indiana: Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Jefferson, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, and Washington. 

LOOP has a limited capacity.  Enrollment is determined by first-come, first-served. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to meet eligibility requirements and sign an MC agreement as soon as possible each semester.  

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Eligible students will directly receive $325 monthly living allowance.
  • Program requirements must continue to be met.
  • Living allowance payment will be added directly to last paycheck each month.
  • For applicable taxes/deductions, amount will be grossed up to $514.65.
  • Students who receive LOOP benefits will also be eligible to receive all Metro College benefits. 

NEW LOOP STUDENTS

NEW LOOP STUDENT ELIGBILITY 

  • Work in an MC eligible work area and signed your first Metro College agreement Fall 2023 or after. 
  • Attend Jefferson Community and Technical College and enroll in 6 or more credit hours each fall and spring semesters.  
  • 18 years or older. 
  • Resident from any county in the state of Kentucky and the following counties in Southern Indiana: Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Floyd, Franklin, Harrison, Jefferson, Ohio, Ripley, Scott, Switzerland, and Washington. 
  • Education Requirement: 
    • Recent High School Graduate: Requires overall high school cumulative 2.5 GPA (GED 500). 
    • Current College Student: Requires overall cumulative 2.5 GPA (500 GED) from most recently attended postsecondary institution. 
  • Students must not have already earned their associate degree.  
  • Cannot be dually enrolled in Jefferson Community and Technical College and the University of Louisville.  

NEW LOOP STUDENT ENROLLMENT PROCESS 

  1. Sign JCTC MC Agreement:  Complete all steps of the MC Checklist and sign your MC agreement no later than the signing deadline. Eligibility will be verified through the MC Database and JCTC Peoplesoft data. If eligible for LOOP, you will receive a notice to your JCTC email within 5-7 business days to submit your LOOP Interest Form if you are interested in receiving this benefit. 
    1. Fall deadline: October 15 
    2. Spring deadline: March 15 
  2. Submit the LOOP Interest Form: Submit your on-line LOOP Interest Form by the deadline. Enrollment is determined by first-come, first-served.      
    1. Fall deadline: October 15 
    2. Spring deadline: March 15 
  3. Sign UPS LOOP Agreement (DocuSign):  Students who meet eligibility requirements and submit a LOOP Interest Form by the stated deadlines will receive a LOOP Agreement.  The agreement will be sent to your JCTC school email within 5-7 days after submitting your LOOP Interest Form.  Students must open and sign the DocuSign document no later than 7 days from the receipt of the document.  If not signed in 7 days, the document will expire.                                                                                                                              
  4. LOOP Payment: LOOP Payments will begin the month after program approval. There are no retroactive payments.   

CONTINUATION OF LOOP BENEFITS

ELIGIBILTY FOR CONTINUATION OF LOOP BENEFITS

  • Must successfully complete (C or better) a minimum of 6 credit hours at Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC) every Spring and Fall Semesters. Summer classes are optional but encouraged.
  • Must work in an eligible work area and sign Metro College agreement each fall and spring semester by the signing deadline (Fall: October 15 and Spring: March 15).
  • Not exceed 36 months of LOOP payments.
  • Student has not earned an associate degree.
  • Student is not dually enrolled at JCTC and UofL.
  • Cannot have participated as a LOOP participant in an approved probationary status previously.

PROCESS OF PAYMENT FOR CONTINUATION OF LOOP BENEFITS

  • Benefits are automatically processed for MC continuing LOOP students.
  • MC LOOP continuing students do not need to resubmit a LOOP agreement.
  • Each month, LOOP eligibility is verified before payment is processed.
    • Fall Semester
      • Fall semester payment is processed from July through January.
      • Continuing LOOP participants, if eligible, must sign an MC agreement no later than July 15 for LOOP payments to continue without interruption.
      • If students do not sign an MC agreement by July 15, payments will stop until eligibility is met, and the MC agreement is signed no later than October 15.
    • Spring Semester
      • Spring semester payment is processed from February through June.
      • Continuing LOOP participants, if eligible, must sign an MC agreement no later than January 15 for LOOP payments to continue without interruption.
      • If students do not sign an MC agreement by January 15, payments will stop until eligibility is met, and the MC agreement is signed no later than March 15.

INELIGIBLE STUDENTS FOR CONTINUATION OF LOOP BENEFITS

  • If a student does not meet eligibility, they will receive notice via their JCTC email. LOOP eligibility is checked monthly.
  • Students who are eligible to re-enroll in a probationary status will be notified via their JCTC email.
  • Students who are no longer eligible for LOOP will be notified via their JCTC email.
