Debra Lang, MC Spotlight

Debra Lang

Congratulations to Debra Lang on being a finalist for the Fall 2015 Share Your Metropolitan College Experience Contest.
We are so lucky to have the MC program in Louisville. I would recommend it to anyone.

Metropolitan College is an incredible opportunity for college students and was a great experience for me. I didn’t fully realize how beneficial it is until I graduated. I didn’t take advantage of the program my entire college career so I had student loan debt after graduation.

Now that I’m out in the real world and paying back loans, I wish I would have utilized the program the entire course of college.

Now that I’m out in the real world and paying back loans, I wish I would have utilized the program the entire course of college. It is tough having to work third shift and go to school full-time but in the end, it’s worth it. I learned so much at UPS during MC that helped me in my jobs after college. One thing in particular was attention to detail. While being a package handler and loading containers, I had to pay attention to package and hazmat labels to avoid either a missort or possibly dangerous situation for the aircraft. I still utilize this skill in my current job (Crime Analyst).

Today, if I type in one wrong number in a spreadsheet, this can throw off crime stats for an entire year. One reason why UPS is great is that they promote within. Students have the opportunity to become part-time supervisors; some in areas that directly pertain to their schooling. I was promoted to part-time supervisor during my time there and that experience is something that will always look good on a resume and possibly get me better paying jobs if I decide to pursue another supervisor position. MC also helped me with time management. Working third shift isn’t ideal. I had some 9am classes and after working all night, I was exhausted. Having to deal with this dilemma quickly taught me to prioritize. We are so lucky to have the MC program in Louisville. I would recommend it to anyone.
